└───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
DR SEND is a convenient utility for Novell Netware that can
be used instead of the Novell SEND command to broadcast one-line
messages to other users.
Running DR SEND displays a list of the users currently logged
in, and lets you scroll to and toggle the users you want to send
a message to. It also allows searching by name. Just type the
first few letters of the name and the cursor will jump to the
closest match. Press the spacebar to tag the highlighted name.
Once you have tagged all the recipients, press <Enter> and type
your one-line message. The maximum message length will be
indicated by the highlighted entry box, and you are not permitted
to enter a longer message than will fit. The length of the
allowed message changes according to the length of your login ID,
as that is included with the message sent. Try sending yourself
a message and you will get the idea. When you finish typing the
message, press <Enter> and it will be sent to all tagged users.
Pressing <Esc> instead aborts the message send and returns you to
tag mode.
After sending the message you will see a response from
NetWare saying whether the message was actually sent or not.
Reasons a message may not be sent are:
1) The user has run CASTOFF which prevents him from
receiving messages, often done when running communications or
other time-sensitive programs.
2) The user has logged out between the time you ran DR SEND
and sent the message.
You can't do much about the first case, but to keep the
second case from happening, use <F9> to refresh the list of users
that are logged in. Note that this should be done before you tag
any recipients, as all tags are cleared when refreshing. So that
makes <F9> a quick way to clear all tags.
DR SEND requires very little memory and disk space, and can
be placed in the \PUBLIC directory on the network (or any
directory in the search path), or on a local drive. If placed on
the network it should be flagged shareable, read-only.
Users are listed and sorted by login ID, making DR SEND a
convenient way to see who is in the office. As well, it shows
the number of connections in use (giving some indication of the
load on the network), the login date and time of the users, and
the current date and time.
DR SEND has been tested with NetWare 2.15 and 3.11, and runs
well under Windows 3.0 and 3.1. It currently supports a maximum
of 200 users. An icon and has been included for Windows use.
Upon registration your name (and/or company name) will
appear on the main screen. Registered users will receive the
latest version of DR SEND on disk, and will automatically receive
the next major upgrade as it becomes available. After that,
upgrades are still free but must be requested by mail. Each site
license is valid for one LAN installation.
To register DR SEND please print out and complete the file
ORDER.FRM and mail it to the address above. If you have any
ideas for enhancements, or experience any problems, please feel
free to write to the same address.
